I specifically remember telling PC in my application for the Two-by-Two mentor program that I had no idea what being called actually meant. A little over a month later I traveled with Calvin Schoulties to Indianapolis to find out an answer to that exact question at the CMTEV Conference in Indianapolis. We were joined with 49 other campus ministries from across the country who also benefit from the Lilly Foundation to discuss how to help college students understand their vocational calling.
Now I had always imagined that being called was when you heard the voice of God and He was telling you to become a Pastor. Well, that is one option, but we can also be called through our friends, family, or anyone else. Fredrick Buechner’s quote really speaks to me, “The place God calls you to, is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” Therefore as long as we are able to find a way to serve others in our career, we are doing God’s work and fulfilling his call. During this weekend I was also able to learn about other campus ministries throughout the country from students. Speaking to those students made me feel very blessed to be a part of LCM-C and all of the diversity activities that we do. Walking away from this experience I am excited to know that I no longer have to wait to hear the Voice of God come to me, because I have already been spoken to by those around me. I cannot wait to find a way to share my new understanding of call with everyone in LCM-C. Alice Cox Comments are closed.
