The weekend of February 17, a small group of LCM-Clemson students traveled up to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the LSM Region 9 retreat. The retreat emphasized growing in faith, serving the community, and enjoying the company of students from other campuses. We worshiped together nightly and considered Scripture together in small devotions groups. Saturday afternoon, we were visited by Duke Divinity School's Susan Dunlap for a talk on expanding our understanding of theology. Saturday morning, we split up and completed service projects at various sites around Raleigh. One group, for example, helped clean at an alternative school, while another visited a rehab/homeless shelter. With the rest of our time, we got to know each other better! Crowd favorite games included Knockout basketball, Bananagrams, and Settlers of Catan. Thanks to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Raleigh for hosting us!
-Sam Mixon On Friday, January 20, LCM-Clemson took a trip to see the rodeo at the T Ed Garrison indoor arena. During the night several different events took place, including bull riding, barrel racing, and cowboy pinball. The bull riding was one of the main events, and was very exciting to watch. After this event, the barrel racing began. The barrel racing participants ranged in all ages from children to adults. The highlight of the night was definitely watching cowboy pinball. During this event, volunteers from the audience were put into a pin with a bucking, charging bull. The object of the game is for the participants to remain standing firmly in place for as long as possible. The last man standing won a "crisp $100 bill" and a standing ovation. This truly was an interesting and memorable experience!
