Over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, a number of us participated in different service projects during our "Weekend of Service." Some people worked on a Habitat for Humanity house, while I worked at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Easley, SC. The ReStore was moving from one location to another, so in the meantime they had moved all their goods to a warehouse. The group of us split in two, and a couple people worked at the new ReStore painting shelves and cleaning things up to get it ready for all the housewares. The other group, the one I was in, worked at the warehouse loading boxes and furniture onto trailers that the regular Habitat volunteers drove from the warehouse to the store. The trailers was unloaded and reloaded multiple times moving a good portion of their things to the store for them. I love giving back to other people, so I thought this was a great, fun thing to do with church friends. Although we had to wake up early Saturday morning, I know the work our "young backs" did helped out all the Habitat volunteers who work so hard to give back to other people all the time. It was obvious all of the volunteers love serving others and find great reward in it, and that attitude seemed to rub off on us by the end of our time there. A lunch of sloppy joes and walnut brownies rounded off this lovely morning of service.
