On October 21, 2016 a group of four LCM-Clemson students drove up to Rock Hill, SC to attend the Lutheran Student Movement Region 9 service retreat. The students spent the weekend painting houses for an organization in the city that helps homeowners-in-need stay up to code. Each year, many homeowners are ticketed for the rundown appearance of their homes. For some of these homeowners, these tickets can become a jail sentence if they are unable to pay them off. Fortunately, Rock Hill has a stellar program called “Rolling in Rock Hill” that helps to paint houses for homeowners in this situation. However, there is not always enough volunteers and resources to help all of the homeowners who apply for this aid. In the course of one day the students of the LSM region 9 scraped and painted two of the homes that had applied for aid and not received it previously. After a long day of service on Saturday, the students returned to Grace Lutheran where they were fed and given the rest of the evening to enjoy the company of the other LCM students from the region.
